McBride's Late Surge Powers Lynx Past Sparks 82-66
In a commanding performance, Kayla McBride netted 15 of her season-high 29 points in the fourth quarter, propelling the Minnesota Lynx to an 82-66 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on Saturday night. This win marks the Lynx's third consecutive triumph.
Notably absent from the Lynx lineup was Napheesa Collier, the reigning WNBA defensive player of the year. Collier exited early in the third quarter during Minnesota's previous game against Las Vegas and did not return.
McBride showcased her shooting prowess, converting 9 of 13 attempts from the field and sinking 5 of 7 from beyond the arc. Courtney Williams contributed significantly as well, finishing with 18 points, six assists, and four steals. Maria Kliundikova also made her mark with 12 points, eight rebounds, three steals, and two blocks.
The game saw a brief lead change when Sarah Ashlee Barker's three-pointer put the Sparks ahead 59-58 with just over seven minutes left. However, Kliundikova quickly responded with a layup, followed by McBride's three-pointer and a three-point play that shifted momentum back to Minnesota. Williams then extended the lead with a pull-up jumper, creating a nine-point cushion for the Lynx.
Despite a valiant effort from the Sparks, including Kelsey Plum's 11 points in the first half and a layup just before halftime that gave Los Angeles a narrow 35-34 lead, they struggled to maintain their advantage. Dearica Hamby added 13 points and four steals, while Azura Stevens contributed 11 points and nine rebounds.
Los Angeles has faced significant challenges against Minnesota, losing 16 of their last 18 matchups. Earlier this season, the Lynx defeated the Sparks 89-75 in Los Angeles and followed up with a decisive 101-78 victory at home last Saturday.
Looking ahead, the Sparks will face off against Chicago, while the Lynx are set to take on Washington on Tuesday.
