The Miami Heat made a significant move in the NBA Draft by selecting Kasparas Jakucionis, a standout guard from the University of Illinois, with the 20th overall pick.

During his freshman year, Jakucionis showcased his talent by starting all 33 games, averaging 15.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game. His shooting was impressive, hitting 44% from the field and setting a school record for freshmen with an 84.5% free throw percentage.

He not only led his team in points and assists but also made a mark by tying the freshman record for total points and setting a new record for 20-point games with ten. His contributions extended to defensive stats, where he finished second in steals and defensive rebounds.

Jakucionis made an immediate impact in his debut season, recording seven assists in the season opener on November 4, which set a new Illinois freshman record.

His performance earned him accolades, including Big Ten All-Freshman honors and selections to both the All-B1G Second Team by the Associated Press and the All-B1G Third Team by coaches and media.

In the 2023-24 season, Jakucionis played for FC Barcelona in Spain, where he averaged 19.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 5.7 assists over 19 games. His shooting percentages were notable as well: 48% from the field, 38% from beyond the arc, and 88% from the free-throw line. He recorded ten games scoring at least 20 points, including a career-high of 39 points on February 3.

With such a strong collegiate and international background, Jakucionis is poised to make an impact in the NBA as he joins the Miami Heat.
