Napheesa Collier, a standout player for the Minnesota Lynx and a leading candidate for the WNBA MVP award, has been appointed as one of the captains for the league's All-Star Game.
Joining her in this role is Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever, with both players set to lead their respective teams during the All-Star Game on July 19, hosted at Clark's home arena. In fan voting, Collier secured the second position, trailing only Clark.
As of Wednesday, Collier is making waves in the league, averaging an impressive 24.4 points per game. She also leads in player efficiency rating, defensive win shares, and defensive rating, showcasing her all-around impact on the court.
While no other Lynx players were selected as All-Star starters, anticipation builds for the announcement of reserves this Sunday. Following that, Collier and Clark will engage in a draft to assemble their teams for the game. Notably, Paige Bueckers, a Minnesota native and the top overall pick by the Dallas Wings in April, has secured a starting position.
In a recent matchup, the Fever triumphed over Collier's Lynx in the WNBA Commissioner's Cup final on Tuesday night. The event was marked by an unfortunate incident where halftime performer Red Panda suffered an injury during her performance.
Currently, the Lynx are leading the WNBA standings with a record of 14-2 as of Wednesday.
