Phil Murphy Invites Donald Trump to Club World Cup Final
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has reached out to former President Donald Trump, inviting him to the Club World Cup final scheduled for next month at MetLife Stadium.
This invitation came during an event marking one year until the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Murphy shared details of his conversation with Trump, stating, “I spoke to the president on Saturday night, invited him to the Club World Cup final.”
While extending the invitation, Murphy acknowledged uncertainty regarding Trump's attendance, saying, “I’m not sure he could come.”

The White House has yet to respond to inquiries about the invitation.
The Club World Cup features 32 teams from top domestic leagues worldwide and kicks off with a match between Inter Miami and Al Ahly in Miami this Saturday.
MetLife Stadium is set to host nine matches during the tournament, including quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final on July 13.

Murphy expressed enthusiasm for the group stage matches, highlighting that the tournament's opening game will feature Brazilian club Palmeiras against Portuguese side FC Porto. “My guess is we’ll have 40 to 50,000 folks there for the kickoff, which will be really cool,” he remarked.
This tournament serves as a precursor to next year's World Cup, which will take place across 11 U.S. cities and five in Canada and Mexico.
At Wednesday’s event in Liberty State Park, Jersey City, Murphy conveyed optimism about the upcoming World Cup matches in the New York/New Jersey area, predicting they would be “a blowout success and a safe World Cup.”
