Philly POPS Revives Tradition Ahead of Independence Day

Jul 04 2025

Under the iconic silhouette of Independence Hall, the Philly POPS took the stage on July 3, marking a significant return to live performance just before the Fourth of July celebrations.

This event was particularly special as it represented the first concert for the newly revitalized Philly POPS, which had faced financial challenges leading to its dissolution in the wake of the pandemic.

"It's been two years, in which we have been clawing our way back, and we are just so excited to be able to provide music for our city," said Matthew Koveal, the executive director of the organization.

Attendees arrived early, eager to secure prime viewing spots. For many, this concert has become an essential part of their Independence Day festivities.

"We're happy to have them back and happy that they're the Philly POPS again," expressed Christina Ricco from Abington, reflecting the sentiments of many in the crowd.

Desiree Wayne, a Philadelphia local, added, "It's always exciting to celebrate the Fourth of July where they invented Fourth of July."

Krystn Kuckelman traveled from Glenside with her family, including her daughter Bailey. "We wouldn't miss it; we have been coming here since my kids were babies," she shared, highlighting the event's familial significance.

The atmosphere was charged with patriotic spirit as the sounds of freedom resonated throughout the area. Many attendees noted that this performance was a perfect way to embrace the holiday spirit.

"It's a nice time to pause and reflect and be thankful for the democracy that we have and sort of get reinvigorated to continue fighting for that democracy," remarked Jordan Wayne from Philadelphia, encapsulating the evening's essence.
