Pirates' Paul Skenes Engages Young Fans at DICK'S House of Sport
Young fans of the Pittsburgh Pirates kicked off their Friday morning with an exciting opportunity to meet star pitcher Paul Skenes at DICK'S House of Sport in Ross Park. The event centered around trading baseball cards, allowing these aspiring athletes to interact with their idol.
While Skenes is known for his impressive performances on the mound, he traded fastballs for baseball cards during this special gathering. "I'm super excited," he expressed, reflecting the enthusiasm of the moment.
"I have some good cards, I have Paul Skenes," another fan proudly stated, highlighting the personal connection these collectibles fostered. Among the notable items was a unique MLB debut patch rookie card of Skenes, which DICK'S Sporting Goods acquired for a staggering $1.11 million at auction in March. "A good marketing move, I think," Skenes chuckled, acknowledging the card's significance.
This event marked Skenes' first visit to the House of Sport at Ross Park Mall. "Keep it in Pittsburgh, it's cool. Like I said, this is the first time I've seen the exhibit," he noted, appreciating the local support.
The young attendees left inspired, eager to follow in Skenes' footsteps and reach the big leagues. "You can't play baseball in college if you don't have good grades, so take care of your classwork, listen to your coaches, and enjoy the game. I think those are the three things," Skenes advised, imparting wisdom to the next generation of players.
