Randi Mahomes, mother of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, has entered the ongoing discussion regarding the participation of transgender athletes in sports. During a recent episode of the “MOMetize Your Passion” podcast, she expressed her thoughts on the matter.
“Being a woman and a girl and doing co-ed teams throughout my life and having fun in sports, there’s a huge difference between male and female,” Randi stated, emphasizing her belief that the physical disparities create an uneven playing field. Her comments came on June 23, as she articulated her perspective on the complexities of gender in athletics.
While Randi affirmed her acceptance of trans individuals, saying, “I love everyone,” she hesitated to endorse their inclusion in competitive sports alongside cisgender athletes. “When it comes to physical strength and our DNA, I don’t think it’s fair,” she argued, drawing from her experiences as a mother of both sons and a daughter.
She elaborated on her viewpoint by noting that while young children may exhibit similar abilities at ages two to five, developmental differences emerge as they grow older. “Of course at some ages, they’re equal. But as you develop, there is a difference,” she explained.
Randi is the mother of Patrick, 29, and Jackson, 25, from her previous marriage to Patrick Mahomes Sr., which ended in divorce in 2006. She also has a 13-year-old daughter, Mia, from a subsequent relationship.
In an effort to bridge the gap in this contentious debate, Randi proposed the establishment of a separate league for transgender athletes. “I just think that women need to be with women, and men need to be with men,” she stated, suggesting that such an arrangement could provide a fairer competitive environment.

The conversation around trans athletes has gained traction recently, with various experts weighing in on the implications of inclusion. In April 2023, geneticist Dr. Eric Vilain discussed the nuances of competitive advantage during an interview on a popular podcast. He noted that the issue extends beyond mere physicality, encompassing various factors such as genetics, metabolism, and socioeconomic status.
Randi's recent initiative, the Sports Parent Academy, aims to support parents navigating the challenges of raising young athletes. When asked by podcast host Tirralan Watkins if she would assist any trans athlete interested in her program, Randi responded positively. “If they needed support, this is someplace where they could go,” she said, indicating openness to discussions about inclusivity within her academy.
The Sports Parent Academy offers a comprehensive e-course designed to guide parents through every stage of their child's athletic journey. According to its website, the program combines expert insights with real-life experiences to serve as a valuable resource for families. Pricing for Tier 1 courses ranges from $245 to $447, with premium and VIP packages available for $1,497 and $3,749 respectively.
As the dialogue surrounding trans athletes continues to evolve, Randi Mahomes’ contributions reflect a blend of personal experience and broader societal considerations. Her stance highlights the complexities inherent in balancing fairness and inclusivity in sports.
