Scottie Scheffler's Epic Comeback: From Arrest to PGA Champion

May 18 2025

Scottie Scheffler is definitely the talk of the town after his big win at this year’s PGA Championship. Seriously, the guy’s got a lot to celebrate. On Sunday, May 18, the 28-year-old golfer clinched the 2025 PGA Championship title, just a year after he found himself in a bit of hot water at the same tournament.

After sinking his final putt and finishing with an impressive -11, Scottie made a beeline for his wife, Meredith Scheffler, and their adorable son, Bennett. You could just feel the love as he embraced them, showering Meredith with kisses like it was a scene straight out of a rom-com.

For a little backstory, Scottie and Meredith tied the knot in December 2020, and they welcomed little Bennett into the world in May 2024, just a month after Scottie snagged his second Masters title. Talk about a busy year!

In a heartwarming moment, Scottie scooped up his son and held him tight, while Meredith looked on, clearly emotional. After a long hug, Scottie was seen wiping away tears, holding onto his son like he was the most precious trophy of all.

“Words can’t describe what we just watched,” his dad, Scott Scheffler, was heard saying as he embraced his son post-victory. And let’s not forget his mom, Diane Scheffler, who was there cheering him on too.

This win is particularly special for Scottie, as it marks his first professional victory as a dad. But let’s rewind a bit to last year’s tournament. Back then, Scottie was the No. 1 golfer in the world, but things took a wild turn when he was arrested before the tournament even kicked off. He was trying to get into the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, around 6 a.m. when police claimed he bypassed the scene of a tragic accident where a pedestrian had been struck and killed.

Despite the chaos, Scottie made it to his 10:08 a.m. tee time, even with multiple charges hanging over his head, including second-degree assault of a police officer and reckless driving. Zander Schauffele ended up winning that tournament, taking home a cool $3.3 million.

Scottie later described the whole incident as a “big misunderstanding.” By May 29, all charges were dropped, and prosecutors decided not to pursue the case, according to ESPN. Talk about a relief!

Fast forward to this year, and after walking off the green with Bennett in his arms, Scottie tried to hand the little guy back to Meredith. But Bennett wasn’t having it; he just wanted to stay with dad. One sports commentator even pointed out how sweet it was that the baby wanted to be with his father.

Scottie, a two-time Masters champion, spent a good chunk of his victory soaking in the moment with his son. He did manage to return Bennett to Meredith long enough to accept the tournament trophy, though. In the end, Scottie finished five strokes ahead of the runner-up, Harris English, who wrapped up the tournament at -6. What a comeback story!
