Sergei Bobrovsky Shines as Florida Panthers Secure Back-to-Back Stanley Cup Titles

Jun 18 2025

Cheers erupted at Amerant Bank Arena as Sergei Bobrovsky delivered yet another masterclass in goaltending, propelling the Florida Panthers to their second consecutive Stanley Cup title.

The "Bob-by!" chants echoed long into the night following the Panthers' decisive 5-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers in Game 6, a testament to the veteran's pivotal role in the team's success.

Fans and teammates alike recognize Bobrovsky's significance; his calm demeanor has been a stabilizing force throughout the Panthers' playoff journey.

Florida's resilience during this third straight Stanley Cup Final run mirrored Bobrovsky's unflappable nature. The team maintained focus, avoiding distractions from past victories or future challenges.

In this year's playoffs, Bobrovsky showcased his elite skills, culminating in a remarkable 28-save performance that sealed the championship. "It's an amazing feeling, obviously," he reflected. "I wanted to say thank you to the group of guys... the dedication, the sacrifice it's been amazing. All of my career, I had so many ups and downs, not many people believed in me. That's why I thank God for this experience. I can't be more humbled and appreciative."

Throughout the finals, he stopped 192 of 209 shots, nearly achieving a fourth shutout before Vasily Podkolzin scored with just under five minutes remaining.

With this victory, Bobrovsky improved his record to 13-8 in series-clinching games, tying him with Tampa Bay's Andrei Vasilevskiy for the most wins among active goaltenders.

His performance surpassed last year's title run, where he recorded a .906 save percentage. In the finals against Edmonton, he made 42 saves in both of the first two games, both of which required overtime to decide.

After a setback in Game 4, where the Panthers squandered a 3-0 lead, Bobrovsky rebounded with a stellar Game 5, stopping 19 of 21 shots and setting the stage for a championship clinch on home ice.

"Bob impresses you on a daily basis with just how he prepares and all of the little things that he does to be the best goalie in the world," said defenseman Aaron Ekblad. "You almost don't want to look him in the eyes sometimes when you're walking around the dressing room because he's just so dialed in. But he really is a down-to-earth guy, too."

When asked about his success, Bobrovsky often deflects praise to his teammates, embodying a team-first mentality that has endeared him to the Panthers' locker room.

"We came in, worked hard, and here we are," he stated simply, emphasizing his commitment to winning while acknowledging those around him.

This straightforward approach has proven effective. In the 2023 playoffs alone, no other goalie matched Bobrovsky's wins, saves, or shutouts. At age 36, he defies expectations as one of the oldest goaltenders in recent history to achieve playoff shutouts.

As of Tuesday, only three other goalies since the 1981-82 season have won the Vezina Trophy twice and lifted the Stanley Cup multiple times. Bobrovsky now stands among them.

The company he joins? All Hall of Famers.
