Tigers Triumph Over Twins 6-3 with Carpenter's Power Play
Kerry Carpenter launched a pivotal three-run homer in the sixth inning, leading the Detroit Tigers to a 6-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Monday night.
Alongside Carpenter, Wenceel Pérez and Dillon Dingler also contributed with home runs, while Minnesota's Ryan Jeffers, Trevor Larnach, and Matt Wallner each hit homers for their team.
Detroit has shown resilience, winning six of their last eight games after a rough stretch where they lost 12 out of 13. In contrast, the Twins have struggled recently, dropping five of their last six contests.
Casey Mize (10-4) earned the win, allowing three runs over six innings. Kyle Finnegan secured his second save for the Tigers by closing out the ninth. Noah Davis (0-2) was tagged with the loss in relief.
Despite only managing two hits in the first five innings, Minnesota made them count with long home runs. Jeffers connected for a shot that reached the flag pole in center field during the first inning, while Larnach followed suit with a fifth-inning blast deep into right field.
Pérez tied the game with a two-run homer in the fifth, but Wallner quickly responded, putting Minnesota back in front at 3-2 with a homer that soared above the centerfield fence into the shrubbery.
In a swift turn of events, Javier Báez crossed home plate to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth, setting the stage for Carpenter's impressive 437-foot home run to right field, pushing Detroit ahead 5-3. Dingler added to the lead with a solo shot in the seventh inning.
Twins opener Travis Adams had kept Detroit at bay, allowing just one infield single through four innings before surrendering Pérez's tying homer in the fifth.
Minnesota's three home runs averaged an impressive distance of 430.3 feet, with Larnach's shot measuring 434 feet and Wallner's reaching 437 feet.
The teams will continue their three-game series on Tuesday night, featuring Tigers RHP Chris Paddack (4-9, 4.77 ERA) against Minnesota RHP Zebby Matthews (2-3, 5.67). Paddack has faced the Twins twice this season as a member of their roster, losing both games before being traded to Detroit on July 28.
