Jun 26 2025

Tre Johnson, a standout from Dallas, was chosen by the Washington Wizards with the sixth overall pick in the NBA Draft held Wednesday night. The 19-year-old, who honed his skills at Lake Highlands High School before making waves at the University of Texas, is now set to embark on his professional basketball journey.

Standing at 6'6", Johnson has quickly established himself as a formidable player. His impressive performance during his freshman year earned him accolades such as SEC Freshman of the Year and a spot on the All-SEC Second Team, where he averaged nearly 20 points per game.

Draft experts have highlighted Johnson as one of the premier scorers and shooters in the 2025 class, showcasing his potential to make an immediate impact in the league.

In Brooklyn for the draft, Johnson's former high school coach, Joe Duffield, expressed immense pride in his former player. "Just super proud, not only for him, but for his whole family," Duffield remarked. "Seeing the whole journey unfold, witnessing the countless hours he and his father dedicated... His shooting ability is truly exceptional. Throughout high school, he was what we call a 50, 40, 90 guy: 50% from the field, 40% from three-point range, and 90% from the free-throw line."

With such a strong foundation and support system, Johnson is poised to take on the challenges of the NBA and continue his ascent in professional basketball.
