Astros Triumph Over Marlins 7-3 with Power Hitting
Jose Altuve and Yainer Diaz showcased their power at the plate, leading the Houston Astros to a 7-3 victory over the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night.
Jeremy Peña contributed significantly, driving in two runs as the Astros, who lead the AL West, celebrated their second consecutive win. AJ Blubaugh, making his debut as a starter, pitched five innings, allowing only two runs, marking his first career victory.
Altuve opened the scoring with a two-run homer off Cal Quantrill in the first inning, bringing his season total to 19. Peña extended the lead to 4-1 with a two-run triple in the fourth, while Diaz capped off the scoring surge with a three-run blast in the fifth, his 16th of the season.
On the other side, Quantrill struggled, surrendering seven runs and nine hits over 4 1/3 innings, resulting in his ninth loss of the season.
For Miami, Jakob Marsee made an impact by hitting his first career home run and Eric Wagaman also contributed with a home run. The Marlins had been on a five-game winning streak before suffering an 8-2 defeat in the series opener.
Marsee's performance included a single that brought home Heriberto Hernandez in the second inning, followed by a solo home run in the fifth. He also walked in the seventh and made an impressive catch in center field during the eighth inning.
Jesús Sánchez, now with the Astros after being traded from Miami last week, recorded two hits against his former team.
Diaz's decisive 405-foot home run to left-center in the fifth inning solidified Houston's commanding 7-1 lead.
In his first five major league games, Marsee has shown promise, hitting 6 for 12 with three RBIs and five walks.
Looking ahead, right-hander Spencer Arrighetti (1-1, 5.59 ERA) is set to start for Houston on Wednesday, while Miami will counter with right-hander Janson Junk (5-2, 3.86 ERA) in the series finale.
