Boston Welcomes The Sports Bra: A Bar Celebrating Women's Sports

Jun 03 2025

A unique bar focused exclusively on women's sports is making its way to Boston. The Sports Bra, which began in Portland, Oregon in 2022, announced plans to expand to three new cities, including the Massachusetts capital.

While the exact opening date and location in Boston remain undisclosed, the bar will also launch in Las Vegas, Indianapolis, and St. Louis. This expansion aims to enhance visibility and support for women's sports across the nation.

"The addition of these new locations will help fuel the movement for gender equity in sports and provide even more opportunities for fans to watch, cheer, and connect over their favorite women's teams and athletes," stated The Sports Bra in their announcement.

Jenny Nguyen, the founder of The Sports Bra, shared her inspiration during a feature on a national program. The concept emerged when she and friends sought a venue to watch the women's NCAA basketball championship game, highlighting a gap in the market for dedicated spaces celebrating female athletes.

Support from notable investors, including Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian—who is married to tennis icon Serena Williams—has propelled The Sports Bra's growth. With new franchise locations on the horizon, the bar is poised to make a significant impact.

"Each new location will carry the same heart and mission as our original one in Portland—uplifting women-owned businesses, serving delicious food, and creating a welcoming space for everyone who wants to belong to a community and be part of the movement," Nguyen emphasized.

The announcement also highlighted local women's professional sports teams that will be featured at The Sports Bra, including the Boston Fleet (hockey), Boston Banshees (rugby), Boston Legacy FC (soccer), Boston Guard (lacrosse), and the Renegades (football).
