Aug 08 2025

Drake Baldwin's impressive performance included two home runs and five RBIs, leading the Atlanta Braves to an 8-6 victory over the Miami Marlins on Thursday night.

Both Baldwin and Marcell Ozuna contributed three hits each, helping the Braves break a three-game losing streak after initially falling behind 6-2 in the sixth inning.

Miami, having recently won five consecutive games, has now lost three of its last four outings.

In the first inning, Baldwin and Ozuna hit back-to-back solo homers with two outs, marking the seventh instance this season that Atlanta has achieved consecutive home runs, the first since June 5.

The Marlins quickly responded, scoring five runs in the second inning. Eric Wagaman's two-run triple and Graham Pauley's two-run homer highlighted the inning, along with an RBI single from Jakob Marsee.

Agustín Ramírez added to Miami's tally with an RBI single in the fourth.

Atlanta's resurgence began in the sixth when Baldwin launched a three-run homer to right-center off starter Eury Pérez, who allowed three homers and seven hits over 5 1/3 innings, resulting in five earned runs—the most he has given up since July 1, 2023.

Baldwin tied the game at 6-all with a one-out RBI single off Josh Simpson (2-1) in the seventh. Following that, Ozuna reached on an infield single, and Jurickson Profar scored due to a throwing error by shortstop Otto Lopez, giving Atlanta a 7-6 advantage.

In the eighth inning, Jonathan Ornelas scored on a wild pitch, while Raisel Iglesias secured his 15th save by striking out two batters in a flawless ninth inning.

Pierce Johnson (3-3) earned the win after pitching a scoreless inning.

Baldwin's three-run homer marked his first career multihomer game, pulling Atlanta within one run at 6-5.

The Braves improved their record against Miami at Truist Park to 50-21, their best performance against any NL East opponent at home since the stadium opened in 2017.

Looking ahead, Miami's RHP Edward Cabrera (5-5, 3.24 ERA) is set to face RHP Bryce Elder (4-8, 6.03) on Friday for the second game of this five-game series.
