Cheryl Reeve and Napheesa Collier Recognized for July Achievements
The Minnesota Lynx continue to dominate the WNBA, leading the standings by a significant margin. Their success has not gone unnoticed, as two key figures have been honored for their contributions.
On Monday, the WNBA announced that Cheryl Reeve earned the title of Coach of the Month for July, while Napheesa Collier was named the Western Conference Player of the Month.
During July, the Lynx posted an impressive 9-3 record, culminating in a thrilling 100-93 victory against the New York Liberty, who currently sit second in the league. This matchup marked their first encounter since last year's finals.
Offensively, Minnesota averaged 87.8 points per game, while their defense allowed just 78.5 points. If these statistics hold throughout the season, they would lead the league in both categories.
Collier stands out as a leading MVP candidate, showcasing her skills with averages of 23.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.9 blocks per game in July. However, her recent performance was marred by an ankle injury sustained during a commanding 53-point win over the Las Vegas Aces. Reeve commented on the situation, noting that it is too early to assess the severity of Collier's injury.
In addition to her coaching role, Reeve also holds the position of president of basketball operations for the Lynx. Last season, she was recognized as both Coach and Basketball Executive of the Year.
As of Monday, the Lynx boast a remarkable record of 24-5, solidifying their status as a formidable force in the league.
