Fox Faces Backlash Over Parody Trailer Featuring Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift's romance, often likened to a cinematic tale, has sparked mixed reactions among fans.

On September 14, just before the Kansas City Chiefs faced off against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, Fox NFL Sunday presented a satirical movie trailer titled My Big Fat Chiefs Wedding, a playful nod to My Big Fat Greek Wedding, showcasing the newly engaged couple.

“She’s one of the most successful musical artists in the world, and he’s six-foot-five,” a voiceover announced as clips of Swift and Kelce, 35, flashed on screen. “But somehow they still found love.”

The scene shifted to an actor portraying Kelce energetically entering the Chiefs locker room.

“Hey guys, it’s me, Travis Kelce,” the actor exclaimed. “Guess what? I’m getting married.”

The voiceover continued, “Falling in love was the easy part. Now comes the hard part: meeting his football family.”

Kelce’s teammates, including quarterback Patrick Mahomes, bombarded him with skeptical questions like, “How do you know she’s not just into you for your money?” and “Where’s she from?”

“She grew up an hour outside of Philly,” the faux Kelce replied, prompting groans from his teammates.

Next, an actress portraying Swift was shown trying to catch footballs alongside an actor playing Chiefs head coach Andy Reid before entering the locker room.

“Everyone, I’d like you to meet Taylor,” fake Kelce introduced, as fake Swift distributed “Taylor’s Version” copies of the Chiefs playbook to the players.

The trailer also featured a cameo from NSYNC member Joey Fatone, who joined a FaceTime call with fake Kelce. Fatone, 48, known for his role in the original My Big Fat Greek Wedding, quipped, “No, I’m not doing this. I’m a Giants fan.”

To which fake Kelce retorted, “Well I’m a Backstreet Boys fan. Bye bye bye.”

However, not all viewers appreciated the tongue-in-cheek humor as they prepared for Sunday’s NFL games.

“As soon as it started I just turned the channel,” one viewer expressed on X.

Another commented, “I have to imagine some illegal substances and cold pizza at 2 am were involved in the planning and maybe even the execution of this.”

Sports media outlet Awful Announcing described the trailer as “a tough watch.”

Kelce and Swift became engaged last month after dating for over two years.

Additionally, Fox NFL Sunday featured an interview with Kelce conducted by Erin Andrews, where he expressed his excitement about his fiancée. “It’s been an exciting, exciting ride up to this day,” Kelce shared. “I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with her.”
