Giants Edge Dodgers 8-7, Extend Rival's Losing Streak

Jul 12 2025

Willy Adames ignited the Giants' offense with a second-inning homer and a two-run triple during a five-run fifth inning, leading San Francisco to an 8-7 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night.

This win narrows the gap in the NL West, placing the Giants just four games behind the first-place Dodgers.

Dominic Smith contributed to the scoring surge by homering to start the fifth inning, following Jung Hoo Lee's pivotal two-run triple in the fourth that shifted the momentum in favor of San Francisco against pitcher Dustin May (5-6). Lee later added to his impact by beating out an infield single in the fifth, driving in another run.

Shohei Ohtani made headlines with his 32nd home run of the season, a two-run shot that sailed into McCovey Cove beyond right field in the third inning. This blast came after Hyeseong Kim's leadoff single, marking the first hit of the night against Giants starter Logan Webb (9-6), who had a challenging outing but managed to strike out six batters over 5 1/3 innings.

In a tense finish, Camilo Doval allowed a single to Mookie Betts and issued a walk to Freddie Freeman before inducing Will Smith to ground into a game-ending double play, securing his 15th save of the season.

Ohtani's powerful swing connected with Webb's initial offering, sending the ball soaring 410 feet. Meanwhile, Michael Conforto's two-run homer in the sixth inning chased Webb from the mound after he hit Betts with a pitch.

The Dodgers are now facing their longest losing streak since September 2017, when they suffered 11 consecutive defeats. May, who previously defeated the Giants on June 15, struggled significantly this time, allowing seven earned runs on five hits across 4 2/3 innings.

After Lee's triple, he was called out at home plate following a fly ball from Casey Schmitt and an impressive throw from left fielder Conforto. The Giants challenged the call, but it was upheld upon review.

Ohtani's home run marked the 65th instance of an opponent hitting into the water at Oracle Park in its 25-year history, contributing to a total of 171 such home runs overallโ€”35 of which belong to legendary slugger Barry Bonds.

Looking ahead, Ohtani (0-1, 1.50 ERA) is set to pitch Saturday against Giants right-hander Landen Roupp (6-5, 3.39).
