Jordan Addison Faces NFL Suspension Following Plea Deal in DUI Case
Jordan Addison's recent legal troubles have cast a shadow over his preparations for the upcoming NFL season. The Minnesota Vikings are now left to navigate the uncertainty surrounding potential disciplinary action from the league as training camp progresses.
Last week, Addison entered a no-contest plea to a lesser charge in connection with a drunken driving case in California, effectively avoiding a trial. This resolution opens the door for the NFL to impose sanctions, as their policy stipulates a three-game suspension for first-time alcohol-related offenses.
Despite Addison's plea resulting in a "wet reckless" misdemeanor—less severe than a DUI and not impacting his driving record—the no-contest plea does not shield him from possible league repercussions. "Everything is out of my control right now, so whatever the league has got for me, I'll be prepared with whatever decision they make," he stated just before the team's first full practice of training camp.
As part of his plea agreement, Addison is required to pay a fine and complete two online courses, with hopes that his probation period will be reduced from twelve months to six. "Just to get it all behind me and just get on with the season," he explained regarding his decision to accept the plea deal.
Reflecting on his legal journey, which began with a speeding citation in Minnesota prior to his rookie season, Addison emphasized the importance of making wise choices. "Just be smart. Make smart decisions. That's pretty much all," he advised.
Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah confirmed that the team is in communication with the NFL regarding Addison's situation but has not received any timeline for a decision. "They're obviously going through their process, and we'll know as soon as they know," he remarked. He acknowledged the need for the team to remain adaptable, as player availability can fluctuate for various reasons.

In Addison's potential absence, players like Jalen Nailor, Tai Felton, and Rondale Moore may step up. Nailor had a standout 2024 season with 28 receptions for 414 yards and six touchdowns after struggling with injuries early in his career. Felton was drafted in the third round from Maryland, while Moore joined the team as a free agent after recovering from an ACL injury sustained while with Atlanta.
However, none of these players can replicate Addison's unique contributions should he miss time at the start of the season. Over his first two years, he has amassed 133 catches for 1,786 yards and 19 touchdowns, establishing himself as a key player alongside two-time All-Pro Justin Jefferson. Jefferson has been proactive in mentoring Addison, encouraging him to take on a more vocal leadership role. "Just talking to him and letting him know that, 'Hey, you need to be more vocal,'" Jefferson shared during spring practice. "He has that motivation and he's a great player as well, so people are going to listen to him as he speaks."
As the Vikings prepare for the season ahead, they await clarity on Addison's status while focusing on building depth within their roster.
