Justin Fields Returns to Jets Practice Following Toe Injury
Justin Fields was spotted on the practice field Friday, donning his helmet but refraining from participating in drills. This comes just a day after the New York Jets' starting quarterback suffered a toe injury on his right foot during practice.
During Thursday's session, Fields was carted off early after a teammate inadvertently stepped on his foot while he attempted to throw an incomplete pass to Jeremy Ruckert. The incident occurred on his fifth play of team drills.
Despite the injury, the 26-year-old appeared to be walking without a noticeable limp as he spent most of Friday's practice on the sidelines alongside the rest of the offense. The Jets' medical staff is evaluating him daily, and initial reports suggest he may not miss significant time.
Veteran backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor took charge of the offense in Fields' absence, with Adrian Martinez and rookie Brady Cook also getting snaps. Taylor, who is the oldest player on the team at 36, stepped in seamlessly as Fields recovered.

Head coach Aaron Glenn expressed concern for his player, stating, "When anybody goes down, there's a lump in my throat. I hate injuries for any player, but I want to ensure I understand exactly what the injury is before I move forward on my thought process."
Fields signed a two-year, $40 million contract with the Jets in March after a stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he played in 10 games last season. He was selected No. 11 overall by the Chicago Bears in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Ohio State, finishing his time there with a 10-28 record as a starter before joining the Steelers. In Pittsburgh, he managed a 4-2 record before being replaced by veteran Russell Wilson.
