Jun 23 2025

Philadelphia police reported a juvenile was arrested for assaulting an officer during the FIFA Club World Cup match between Wydad AC and Juventus at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday. Additionally, seven individuals were ejected from the venue after Wydad fans ignited smoke bombs in the stands.

The incident occurred as Wydad, a Moroccan club, faced off against Juventus in a group stage match. This was not the first occurrence of smoke bombs at Wydad games; similar disruptions were noted during their previous match against Manchester City in South Philadelphia.

FIFA representatives emphasized that smoke bombs are strictly prohibited at their events. Furthermore, Lincoln Financial Field enforces a stringent bag policy, allowing only specific types of bags into the stadium. Fans may bring clear bags that meet designated size requirements, a one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag, or a small clutch-style bag roughly the size of a hand.

In the match itself, Juventus triumphed over Wydad with a score of 4-1. The FIFA Club World Cup is currently taking place in Philadelphia, just a year ahead of the cityโ€™s hosting of matches for the 2026 World Cup.

Since the tournament commenced last week, soccer enthusiasts from around the globe have flocked to Philadelphia, adding to the vibrant atmosphere surrounding the event.

As the tournament progresses, anticipation builds for the upcoming match on Tuesday, featuring Esperance de Tunis against Chelsea.
