Marlins Pull Off Thrilling Comeback Against Cubs in 8-7 Victory
In a nail-biting showdown on Monday night, the Miami Marlins pulled off an incredible comeback to defeat the Chicago Cubs 8-7, thanks to Jesús Sánchez's standout performance. He kicked things off with a leadoff homer and capped it with a game-ending triple, racking up three hits and four RBIs in total.
The Marlins, who had already seen two leads slip away, got a boost from rookie catcher Agustín Ramírez, who also went yard in the first inning. It was a rollercoaster of a game, but Sánchez's two-run triple in the ninth sealed the deal with two outs on the board.
Miami found themselves in a tight spot, down to their last strike against Cubs reliever Daniel Palencia (0-1). But Derek Hill doubled on an 0-2 count, and Javier Sanoja walked, setting the stage for Sánchez. He smashed a hard hit past first baseman Michael Busch, sending both runners home and marking the Marlins' sixth walk-off win of the season.
After the Cubs took a 7-6 lead in the sixth inning, Valente Bellozo (1-2) stepped up, throwing three scoreless innings in relief to earn the win. Meanwhile, Miguel Amaya had a stellar night for the Cubs, hitting a homer, a double, and driving in five runs, keeping the NL Central leaders in the game.
Matt Shaw, who was called up from Triple-A earlier that day, made an immediate impact with an RBI double that capped a four-run sixth inning against Marlins reliever Jesús Tinoco, giving Chicago a brief 7-6 lead. Moisés Ballesteros also contributed with a run-scoring single, and Amaya's two-run double really put the pressure on Miami.
Cubs starter Ben Brown had a solid outing, retiring 12 straight batters until the Marlins exploded for four runs in the fifth. Liam Hicks hit an RBI triple, while Sanoja, Sánchez, and Otto López all added run-scoring singles to turn the tide.

Brown ended up giving up six runs and seven hits, striking out seven in 4 2/3 innings. On the other side, Marlins starter Edward Cabrera completed five innings, allowing three runs on five hits while also striking out seven.
The game started off strong for Miami with consecutive homers from Sánchez and Ramírez, putting them ahead 2-0. Sánchez's 409-foot drive to right-center marked the first leadoff homer of his career, setting the tone for an exciting night.
As the game wound down, the Cubs threatened again in the ninth with Seiya Suzuki's one-out walk and Dansby Swanson's two-out single. But Bellozo held his ground, retiring Nico Hoerner on a flyout to center, securing the win for Miami.
It's worth noting that the four runs charged against Tinoco ended a remarkable streak of 16 scoreless innings by Marlins relievers. Looking ahead, Cubs RHP Jameson Taillon (2-3, 4.53 ERA) is set to face off against Marlins LHP Ryan Weathers (1-0, 1.80) on Tuesday, promising more excitement in this ongoing series.
