Marlins Rally in Eighth to Secure 6-4 Victory Over Diamondbacks

Jun 29 2025

In a decisive eighth inning, Otto Lopez delivered a two-run single, while Kyle Stowers followed with a three-run double, propelling the Miami Marlins to a 6-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday. This win marked the Marlins' seventh consecutive triumph, completing a three-game sweep.

Entering the eighth, the Diamondbacks held a narrow 2-1 lead. However, left-handed pitcher Jalen Beeks struggled, walking three consecutive batters with two outs. Lopez seized the opportunity, hitting a line drive into left field that brought home Liam Hicks and Dane Myers, shifting the score to 3-2 in favor of Miami. Following an intentional walk to Agustin Ramirez, Stowers cleared the bases with a double, extending the Marlins' lead to 6-2.

Arizona's pitching woes continued as they issued ten walks throughout the game, contributing to their fourth straight loss and dropping their record to 41-42. Beeks (2-1) faced difficulties, allowing five earned runs and managing only two outs, a stark contrast to his previous outing where he also struggled.

On the other hand, Eduardo Rodríguez of the Diamondbacks showcased his skills, allowing just one run on four hits and three walks over 5 1/3 innings, striking out five batters. His performance in June has been impressive, maintaining a 1.98 ERA over 27 1/3 innings.

Cal Quantrill of Miami contributed by giving up two runs on three hits and a walk across five innings, also striking out five. Lake Bachar (4-0) provided solid relief with two scoreless innings, while Ronny Henriquez secured his third save in the ninth.

Ketel Marte's solo home run in the third inning had initially put the Diamondbacks ahead 2-1, marking his 17th homer of the season. Although Arizona managed to narrow the gap to 6-4 in the bottom of the eighth, Calvin Faucher struck out Jake McCarthy with runners on first and second, extinguishing any further threat.

With a struggling bullpen that entered the game with a 5.22 ERA, Arizona faces challenges ahead. The Marlins will return home to take on the Minnesota Twins and right-hander Joe Ryan (8-3, 2.86 ERA) on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks will continue their homestand on Monday against the San Francisco Giants, featuring right-hander Ryne Nelson (4-2, 3.71).
