Minnesota Frost Triumphs Again with Walter Cup Victory
Players and fans of the Minnesota Frost took to the streets of Saint Paul on Wednesday evening, reveling in the team's second Walter Cup victory.
Amid cheers and chants, gratitude filled the air.
"It's awesome. The state of Minnesota's always behind us. We're just excited to share it with them for the second time," expressed Frost goalie Nicole Hensley, her voice resonating with pride.
Defender Claire Thompson echoed this sentiment, stating, "We have the best fans in the league. They showed out in all of our home games this season." The enthusiasm was palpable, a testament to the community's unwavering support.
Anna Franco, a lifelong hockey player from Detroit Lakes, shared her emotional reaction: "I grew up playing hockey. When they won, winning the cup two times in a row I was like *gasp*." Her words captured the thrill felt by many in attendance.
Saint Paul Mayor Melvin Carter added to the celebration, declaring, "We're super excited about this. The Walter Cup is officially a Saint Paul resident. No other city has one. We've got two." His remarks highlighted the significance of this achievement for the city.
This marks the second Walter Cup awarded since the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) commenced in 2023, both victories claimed by the Minnesota Frost.
Despite the rain, the downtown march proceeded, culminating in a festive ceremony at the Xcel Energy Center.
"Let's go Frost! Let's frost 'em over again next year and the year after that," shouted Natalie Ernst from Richfield, her enthusiasm infectious.
Looking ahead, the 2025 PWHL draft is scheduled for June 24, 2025, in Ottawa, promising more excitement for fans and players alike.
