Minnesota Secures Historic Victory in Seattle with 3-2 Win
Tani Oluwaseyi emerged as the star of the match, netting two goals in the second half, leading Minnesota to a historic 3-2 victory over the Seattle Sounders on Sunday.
This win marks a significant milestone for Minnesota (8-3-6), as it is their first triumph in Seattle after nine attempts and only their second victory against the Sounders (7-5-5) in 16 encounters. Notably, the Sounders had previously eliminated Minnesota from the 2020 Western Conference championship.
Seattle's loss at Lumen Field was their first of the season, dropping their home record to 5-1-2. FC Cincinnati remains the only team in Major League Soccer without a home defeat this season.
In a remarkable display of offensive prowess, both teams combined for four goals within a span of just seven minutes, an occurrence that has only happened nine times in MLS history during a single half.
Oluwaseyi initiated the scoring frenzy in the 51st minute, capitalizing on a back pass from Robin Lod to redirect the ball into the net from the penalty spot. Just seven minutes later, he struck again, converting a rebound to extend Minnesota's lead to 3-1.
Lod himself contributed to the scoreline with a penalty kick in the 54th minute, giving Minnesota a comfortable two-goal cushion.
Seattle's Kalani Kossa-Rienzi and Nicolás Romero managed to find the back of the net, but it wasn't enough to secure a comeback.
Prior to kickoff, Seattle players donned T-shirts emblazoned with "Club World Cup Ca$h Grab," advocating for a share of the prize money associated with their participation in the upcoming international tournament.
