Oilers Surge Ahead in Conference Final with Dominant 6-1 Victory

May 25 2025

Zach Hyman lit up the scoreboard with two goals and an assist, while Connor McDavid matched him with two goals of his own, leading the Edmonton Oilers to a resounding 6-1 victory against the Dallas Stars on Sunday. This win gives the Oilers a 2-1 advantage in their Western Conference final series.

Contributions came from Evan Bouchard, who netted a goal and added an assist, alongside John Klingberg, who also found the back of the net. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins showcased his playmaking skills with three assists, further solidifying his impact on the game.

In goal, Stuart Skinner turned aside 33 shots, marking his first playoff win that wasn't a shutout, bringing his postseason record to 4-4. The Oilers have now bounced back with two consecutive wins following a disappointing third-period collapse in Game 1.

Jason Robertson managed to score for the Stars, who are determined to avoid elimination in the third round at the hands of the Oilers for a second straight year. Meanwhile, Jake Oettinger faced 24 shots in net for Dallas, dropping his career record in Western Conference finals to 5-10.

The action kicked off with Edmonton scoring six minutes into the first period when Bouchard unleashed a powerful shot from the point, slipping through traffic for his sixth goal of the playoffs. Just 36 seconds later, a swift 3-on-1 break saw Nugent-Hopkins set up McDavid, who deftly scored his fourth postseason goal past Oettinger.

Nugent-Hopkins has been on fire this series, recording multi-point games in every matchup thus far. He joins an elite group as the only Oiler besides Wayne Gretzky to achieve more than one point in each of the first three games of a conference final.

On the road this postseason, Dallas has struggled significantly, being outscored 9-0 in first periods. The Stars were missing key forward Roope Hintz, who was tied for second in team scoring before the game. Hintz suffered an injury late in Game 2 after being slashed on the foot by Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse, leading to calls for a major penalty or suspension that were ultimately not granted.

Game 4 is set to take place in Edmonton on Tuesday, as both teams prepare for another crucial matchup in this tightly contested series.
