Orioles Dominate Rangers 6-0 in Scorching Heat
In a sweltering 100-degree heat, the Baltimore Orioles triumphed over the Texas Rangers with a commanding 6-0 victory on Monday night. Trevor Rogers showcased his skills in his home debut, allowing just three hits over a career-high eight innings.
Rogers (1-0) delivered the longest outing by an Oriole this season, throwing 72 of his 101 pitches for strikes. He struck out four batters and notably did not issue a single walk, demonstrating remarkable control on the mound.
Jackson Holliday was a standout performer, hitting a three-run homer and driving in the first four runs of the game. His run-scoring double came after Chadwick Tromp recorded his first hit with Baltimore, a two-out double in the third inning against Texas starter Patrick Corbin (4-7).
In the fifth inning, Coby Mayo and Cedric Mullins connected with consecutive one-out singles, setting the stage for Holliday's impressive ninth homer—a 402-foot blast to left-center field that extended the lead to 4-0. Holliday concluded the night with a 3-for-5 performance, marking his seventh game this season with three hits.
Corbin struggled on the mound, surrendering five runs on nine hits across five innings of work.
Rogers, selected as the 13th overall pick in the 2017 draft, previously finished as the runner-up for the NL Rookie of the Year award in 2021. That season, he posted a record of 7-8 with a 2.64 ERA and 157 strikeouts in 133 innings. However, after a challenging stint with the Marlins that saw him finish with a 7-24 record, he was traded to Baltimore in July in exchange for Connor Norby and Kyle Stowers.
Before the game, Tromp was called up from Triple-A Norfolk to fill in for catcher Maverick Handley, who was placed on the 7-day concussion list following a collision with Jazz Chisholm Jr. during a recent game against the Yankees. Additionally, starting catcher Adley Rutschman was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a left oblique strain.
In a notable achievement, Gunnar Henderson drew an intentional walk in the seventh inning, contributing to a team-record streak of 156 consecutive games with at least one base on balls. This surpasses the previous record set during the 1955-56 seasons.
As for the Rangers, they have yet to announce their starting pitcher for Tuesday's matchup against Orioles right-hander Charlie Morton (4-7, 5.64).
