Orioles Triumph Over Rangers 10-6 in Extra Innings
Gunnar Henderson emerged as the star of the night, driving in four runs during extra innings as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Texas Rangers 10-6 on Monday evening.
With the game knotted at 3-3 in the 10th inning, Henderson launched a two-run homer that soared over the right-field wall. Colton Cowser followed suit, adding a solo shot to give the Orioles a three-run cushion.
Yet, the Rangers responded dramatically. Adolis GarcΓa connected with a powerful three-run home run that struck the facade of the second deck, leveling the score at 6-6.
In the 11th inning, Luis Vazquez delivered a crucial single to center off Hoby Milner (1-2), bringing Ryan O'Hearn home from second base. Vazquez later crossed the plate himself on Ramon Laureano's third double of the night. Henderson capped off the scoring with a two-run double that ricocheted off the right-field wall.
This game marked the Rangers' fourth consecutive extra-inning contest, tying a franchise record set back in 2002.
Since 2021, the Orioles have maintained a strong record against the Rangers, winning 20 out of 30 matchups.
Keegan Akin (3-0) initially faltered in a save opportunity but ultimately secured the win for Baltimore.
In an unusual turn of events, Orioles starter Trevor Rogers took over for catcher Chadwick Tromp in the fourth inning due to an injury. This forced designated hitter Gary Sanchez to step behind the plate while Rogers filled Tromp's spot in the batting order.
The Rangers executed a bizarre play in the seventh inning to tie the game at 3-3. Rookie Michael Helman, after being hit in the helmet while sliding into second base, saw the ball roll into center field. He capitalized on Sanchez's inability to secure it and raced home.
Ramon Laureano had an impressive night, going 4 for 6 with three runs scored, extending his hitting streak to six games with at least one hit and one run in each.
Looking ahead, Orioles right-hander Charlie Morton (4-7, 5.63 ERA) is set to face off against Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom (8-2, 2.08) on Tuesday.
