Patrick Mahomes Anticipates Chiefs' Embrace of Taylor Swift's New Album
Patrick Mahomes is ready for Taylor Swift’s latest album to echo through the halls of the Kansas City Chiefs’ headquarters. The quarterback, 30, shared his enthusiasm during a radio appearance on 96.5 The Fan on October 2, stating, “I haven’t been able to hear the album yet, but I’m super-excited to be able to do that. And it’ll be blaring all through the Chiefs facility tomorrow. We’ll be supporting Taylor.”
Mahomes acknowledged Swift’s dedication, noting her “hard work” and expressing eagerness to experience her 12th album, “just like everybody else,” on its release day. The album, titled The Life of a Showgirl, dropped at midnight on October 3 and features multiple nods to Mahomes’ teammate, Travis Kelce, who is also Swift’s fiancé.
The opening track, “The Fate of Ophelia,” draws inspiration from an incident two years prior when Kelce attempted to give Swift a friendship bracelet with his phone number during her Eras Tour stop in Kansas City. In the song, she sings, “I heard you calling / On the megaphone / You wanna see me all alone,” later incorporating a reference to the Chiefs with the line, “I pledge allegiance to your hands, your team, your vibes.”
Fans have also speculated about a connection between the Showgirl track “Cancelled!” and Brittany Mahomes, Patrick’s wife. Brittany and Swift became friends after Kelce and Swift began dating in 2023. Some fans have raised concerns regarding their friendship, suggesting that Swift should reconsider her inner circle due to differing political views.
In “Cancelled!,” Swift sings, “It’s easy to love you when you’re popular / The optics click, everyone prospers / But one single drop you’re off the roster / Tone-deaf and hot, let’s f***ing off her.”
Further into the album, she expresses a preference for friends “cooked in Gucci and in scandal,” possibly alluding to a high-profile outing at the U.S. Open with Kelce, Patrick, and Brittany last year. Recently, Swift celebrated Brittany’s 30th birthday in Nashville. Following her engagement announcement to Kelce in late August, Brittany took to Instagram to share her support, writing, “Two of the most genuine people meet & fall in love.”
According to an insider who spoke with Us Weekly in early 2024, the friendship between Brittany and Swift is authentic and enjoyable. They reportedly love attending games together and cheering for their partners. “Brittany loves that Taylor is dating Travis, and she’s so supportive of their relationship. They have a very similar sense of humor and are always cracking jokes and laughing,” the source revealed.
