Andy Reid Addresses Travis Kelce's Frustration Amidst Chiefs' Struggles
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid confronted the media on September 22, following a heated moment between him and tight end Travis Kelce during the previous night’s game against the New York Giants. Kelce, visibly frustrated with the team's performance, was seen expressing his discontent on the sidelines.
“The question came up yesterday about Travis and the intensity and all that,” Reid remarked. “Is he frustrated or not frustrated? Well, he’s seen how the offense works. So when things aren’t going the right way, he’s very aware of that.” The head coach emphasized Kelce's experience and intelligence, noting that the tight end has been with the team longer than anyone else. “He wants to make sure that he gets that point across to the guys, and so he does that,” Reid added, indicating his acceptance of Kelce's passionate demeanor.
Despite the Chiefs’ rocky start to the season, with a record of 1-2, Reid acknowledged Kelce's understanding of the offense's potential. “He knows also, like the coaches know, where we can go with this, too, and the growth we can have here,” Reid stated. “We need to take care of business in that area.”
The Chiefs secured their first victory of the season against the Giants, winning 22-9. However, during the second quarter, Kelce was caught on camera bumping chests with Reid, showcasing his frustration. “I love Travis’ passion, man,” Reid commented post-game. “We didn’t have enough of it in the second quarter. It wasn’t where we needed it to be.” He acknowledged that while Kelce is passionate, there are moments when he needs to temper his emotions.
Reid further elaborated on Kelce’s emotional nature, saying, “Sometimes, I have to be the policeman. He’s an emotional guy.” This sentiment was echoed by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who remarked on the relationship between Kelce and Reid. “He’s a guy that loves it,” Mahomes said of Kelce. “That’s what’s made him so great. I know they love each other. That’s what you want out of the greats.”

This incident marked the second consecutive week that Kelce displayed his frustration on the field. During a previous game against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 14, he was seen yelling, “I’m sick of this s***!” at his teammates and throwing his helmet in frustration.
As the season progresses, Kelce has recorded 10 receptions for 134 yards and one touchdown over the first three games. The Chiefs are set to face off against the Baltimore Ravens at Arrowhead Stadium on September 28, as they look to build momentum following their recent win.
