Phillies Secure Series Win Over Marlins with 2-1 Victory

Christopher Sánchez delivered an impressive performance, pitching eight innings while allowing just five hits and one run, alongside four strikeouts. With this outing, Sánchez improved his record to 6-2 and lowered his ERA to 2.87.

Schwarber's pivotal moment came when he connected on a 1-0 sinker from reliever Anthony Bender, sending the ball soaring 428 feet into right-center field. This home run brought his season total to 23, placing him second in the National League behind Shohei Ohtani's 25.

On the other side, Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera showcased his best performance of the season, limiting the Phillies to one run and two hits over 6 1/3 innings while striking out five batters. Cabrera received a warm ovation from fans as he exited the game after throwing his 82nd pitch in the seventh inning.

The scoring began in the fifth inning when Nick Fortes singled in Dane Myers, who had previously doubled to lead off the inning. However, the Marlins' bullpen faltered after Cabrera's departure. Cade Gibson entered with one out in the seventh and quickly loaded the bases due to a single, a wild pitch, and a hit by pitch. Despite the pressure, Gibson managed to limit the damage to just one run, allowing the Phillies to tie the game at 1.

Orion Kerkering closed out the game for Philadelphia, earning his second save of the season. In a tense moment during the ninth inning, Otto Kemp attempted to score from second base on an infield single by Bryson Stott but was thrown out at home plate.

Both teams are set to begin new home series on Friday. The Phillies will send RHP Zack Wheeler (7-2, 2.76 ERA) to the mound against the New York Mets, while RHP Janson Junk (1-0, 2.78) will pitch for Miami against Atlanta.
