Red Sox Fans Can Trade In Rafael Devers Jerseys After Recent Trade
Hours after hitting a home run against the New York Yankees, Rafael Devers was traded from the Boston Red Sox to the San Francisco Giants. This sudden move leaves many fans who recently purchased Devers jerseys wondering about their next steps.
“I once bought an Adrian Gonzalez jersey and wore it proudly for just one day before he got traded. My daughter had a Carl Crawford jersey, and he was gone shortly after,” recounted Steve Shapiro, a Red Sox supporter from New Jersey. “If I had bought a Devers jersey, I would definitely return it now since he didn’t seem to want to stay with the team.”
Fortunately for fans, MLBshop.com offers a jersey assurance policy. If a player is traded within 90 days of purchase, fans can file a claim within 14 days of the trade. However, this policy does not cover situations where a player is cut, retires, suspended, injured, or incarcerated.
“I’m just finding out about this now, and it’s good information to have,” Shapiro added.
Once fans send in their outdated Devers jerseys, they can choose either a jersey of another Red Sox player or receive a new Devers jersey featuring his Giants uniform.
“A coworker of mine just bought a Rafael Devers jersey phone case last week,” said Aidan Fink, another Red Sox fan. “He even named his last two dogs Lester and Bogey. There’s definitely something cursed about being a Boston fan.”
While renaming dogs might be a challenge, fans with outdated home jerseys may find it easier since many don’t have names on the back.
“I have a Xander Bogaerts jersey with just a '2' on it and no name. I guess I could easily switch that to an Alex Bregman jersey now,” Fink joked.
Here’s hoping the Red Sox find a new number 11 soon.
