Scottie Scheffler Celebrates Memorial Tournament Win Amid Parenting Chaos

Jun 02 2025

Scottie Scheffler stood triumphant at the Muirfield Village Country Club in Dublin, Ohio, after clinching his second consecutive Memorial Tournament title on June 1. The 28-year-old golfer joined the ranks of Tiger Woods as one of the few to achieve back-to-back victories in this prestigious event.

In a moment that blended joy with a hint of chaos, Scheffler's wife, Meredith, approached him with their 13-month-old son, Bennett, just moments after the win. “Um, he has poop all over his back,” she remarked, handing over the baby, who sported a noticeable stain on his onesie.

“That’ll happen,” Scheffler replied, chuckling as he cradled Bennett. The lighthearted exchange captured the essence of family life amidst the pressures of professional golf.

During a post-tournament interview with CBS Sports, Scheffler reflected on the unwavering support from Meredith. “You’re really trying to make me emotional now,” he laughed, holding Bennett close. “My wife is my biggest supporter. She’s my best friend. This is our life out here on the road. It’s a lot of fun. We’ve had some special memories at this tournament.”

He paused, adding, “Definitely couldn’t do it without her.” His gratitude was palpable as he spoke about their shared journey.

On the course, Scheffler secured victory with a final round score of 70, finishing at -10 for the tournament and four strokes ahead of Ben Griffin, who took second place. “It’s always a hard week this week,” he noted. “It’s so challenging to play this tournament. Battled really hard over the weekend. Ben made things interesting there down the stretch. Overall it was a great week.”

For his efforts, Scheffler earned $4 million, marking his 16th career win on the PGA Tour. The couple's journey began at Highland Park High School in Dallas, culminating in their marriage in December 2020.

Bennett's arrival was announced in May 2024, with Scheffler sharing heartfelt sentiments on social media: “Welcome to the world little one. Your mom & dad love you so much.” Since then, Bennett has been a regular presence at his father's tournaments, including witnessing Scheffler's victory at the 2025 PGA Championship shortly after turning one.

“This week was unforgettable!” Scheffler posted on Instagram alongside photos from his win. “All glory to God.” In a candid moment months after Bennett's birth, Scheffler discussed how fatherhood has influenced his approach to golf. “Golf can be tough and we can all be our own harshest critic,” he shared on the “Pardon My Take” podcast in September 2024. “When it comes to how I’m performing on the golf course, sometimes when I get off the course after a tough day, I’ll kind of look at myself and be like, ‘If this was Bennett what would I tell him after the day?’ Part of that has been really helpful.”
