Skylar Thompson Attacked and Robbed During Steelers' Trip to Dublin
Pittsburgh Steelers backup quarterback Skylar Thompson faced a harrowing experience during the team's trip to Dublin, Ireland, where he was reportedly attacked and robbed.
The incident occurred on Friday, September 26, leaving the 28-year-old with minor injuries, as confirmed by NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Despite the ordeal, Thompson has returned to the team. The Steelers are in Dublin preparing for their game against the Minnesota Vikings at Croke Park on Sunday, September 28.
Steelers spokesperson Burt Lauten acknowledged the situation, stating, “We are aware of a situation involving Skylar Thompson on Friday night in Dublin. We will have no further comment at this time as we are working with NFL security to gather more information regarding the incident.”
Thompson's recent struggles include a hamstring injury that placed him on injured reserve earlier this month.
A Kansas State University alumnus, Thompson was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He played in seven games during his rookie season, starting two.
In January, he signed a reserve/future contract with the Steelers. Earlier this year, he married his wife, Bre.

Last month, Thompson made headlines as a surprise addition to the Steelers’ 53-man roster following an impressive training camp and preseason performance. “I was very confident in the work I put in this preseason,” he remarked. “What I put on tape gave me confidence whether it was going to be here [in Pittsburgh] or somewhere else. A guy in my shoes has to make the most of opportunities.”
Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers leads the Steelers as their starting quarterback after signing a one-year, $13.6 million contract in June. Before heading to Dublin, Rodgers expressed disappointment over the limited time for sightseeing in Ireland.
“It is what it is,” he said on September 26. “If the schedule had been a little different, maybe we get over on Monday. Tuesday is the day off. It’s a beautiful country from what I’ve seen.”
Rodgers also shared his personal connection to Ireland, stating, “I have family history going back to Ireland and Scotland. I’m a historian, so I know the history and geopolitics of the area. I’m a huge fan of Guinness; I don’t really drink beer, but if I do, I drink Guinness.”
The Steelers currently hold a 2-1 record this season, sharing first place in the AFC North with the Cincinnati Bengals.
