Taylor Lewan Critiques NFL's Choice of Bad Bunny for Super Bowl Halftime Show

Oct 03 2025

Former NFL player Taylor Lewan voiced his concerns regarding the NFL's decision to feature Bad Bunny as the halftime performer for the upcoming Super Bowl.

During a recent episode of "Up & Adams," aired on September 30, Lewan, who cohosts the podcast "Bussin' With the Boys," articulated his perspective to host Kay Adams.

"I think the NFL might have made a mistake making Bad Bunny the halftime Super Bowl show," Lewan stated, acknowledging the artist's talents in both music and acting.

However, he believes the league overlooked a significant opportunity by not selecting Taylor Swift. "It should have been Taylor Swift," he emphasized, noting her unique ability to bridge the gap between football and pop culture.

Swift, engaged to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, has been a prominent figure in the NFL since their relationship began in 2023. Lewan credited her influence for contributing to the league's rising popularity.

"You see it in the cap space going up and up," he remarked. "You think, 'Oh, the ratings are so great. Our players must be better.' No, boys. That’s the Swiftie Army."

As Kelce approaches the end of his career, Lewan stressed the urgency of having Swift perform at the Super Bowl. "We need to put this thing with a nice little bow," he argued. "We don’t know how much longer Travis Kelce is going to be with us in uniform."

Will Compton, Lewan's podcast cohost, added that the timing is particularly right for Swift to take the stage given the Chiefs' slow start to the 2025 season. "You know the Chiefs aren’t going to be in the Super Bowl this year; that’s why this is the moment now," Compton said.

He further suggested that with Kansas City unlikely to make it to the championship, it would be an ideal time for Swift to shine. "Let’s get her the halftime show over Bad Bunny because I know the world’s kind of exploding right now," Compton remarked.

Adams interjected, suggesting that Swift may be waiting until Kelce retires before accepting such an invitation. "Don’t you think she’ll do it right when he’s done?" she asked.

Compton acknowledged her point, agreeing that it was a valid perspective.

Bad Bunny was officially announced as the Super Bowl LX halftime performer on September 28. In a statement, he expressed his pride in representing his culture and history through this opportunity.

"What I’m feeling goes beyond myself," said the Puerto Rican rapper. "It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown... this is for my people, my culture and our history."

The choice of Bad Bunny has sparked mixed reactions, including criticism from former race car driver Danica Patrick on social media. "Oh fun," she commented on X. "No songs in English should not be allowed at one of America’s highest rated television events of the year... not just for sports."
