Taylor Swift Draws Parallels to Wayne Gretzky at Stanley Cup Finals

Jun 13 2025

At the 2025 Stanley Cup Finals, Taylor Swift found herself in the spotlight, drawing an unexpected comparison to hockey icon Wayne Gretzky.

During the first period of Game 4 between the Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers on June 12, TNT reporter Jackie Redmond highlighted Swift, 35, and her partner, Travis Kelce, who were enjoying the game at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida.

“Florida is one hell of a drug, just ask Taylor Swift, who wrote those lyrics in a song called ‘Florida’ and who, yes, is in the building,” Redmond remarked, referencing Swift’s track “Florida!!!” from her 2024 album, The Tortured Poets Department.

In a playful nod to the rivalry between the Panthers and Oilers, Redmond noted the “bad blood” between the teams, cleverly linking it to Swift’s hit “Bad Blood,” featuring Kendrick Lamar, from her 2014 album, 1989.

“Taylor Swift, basically the Wayne Gretzky of music right now,” Redmond declared. “She’s written over 250 songs, won 14 Grammys, she’s broken records by The Beatles. I could go on and on.”

As the broadcast transitioned back to the booth, play-by-play announcer Kenny Albert joined in on the fun. “The Edmonton Oilers look to shake off their Game 3 loss in Game 4 here in Sunrise,” he said, referencing Swift’s popular song “Shake It Off.”

In addition to being likened to Gretzky—who holds the record for most points in NHL history—Swift and Kelce were spotted mingling with the hockey legend during the game.

The trio shared a suite conversation just weeks after Gretzky appeared on Kelce’s podcast, “New Heights.”

Meanwhile, Swift and Kelce displayed affection throughout the game, with Kelce seen embracing his girlfriend and sharing a kiss in their suite.

The game itself was a nail-biter; after the Panthers tied it with just 19.5 seconds remaining, Swift was caught on camera exclaiming “my heart!” while mimicking a rapid heartbeat beside Kelce.

This summer, Swift and Kelce have settled in Florida as he gears up for his 13th NFL season.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end has rented a lavish $20 million home in Boca Raton, where Swift frequently visits.

“[Taylor] is trying to spend as much time with him as she can by going to Boca,” a source revealed. “They are doing stuff separately out of necessity because of his training, but when they find time to connect, it’s intentional and meaningful.”

The Stanley Cup Finals will continue with Game 5 returning to Edmonton on June 14 before heading back to Florida for Game 6 on June 17.
