Travis Kelce Opens Up About SNL Challenges and Future Acting Aspirations

Jul 01 2025

Hosting Saturday Night Live is no small feat, as Travis Kelce discovered firsthand.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, who took the stage in March 2023, revealed that his experience was not as effortless as it appeared. “The writers’ rooms were fun because you’re just getting pitched ideas,” Kelce, 35, recounted during a July 1 episode of the “Bussin’ With the Boys” podcast. However, he candidly admitted, “The table reading — for a guy that can’t really read that well — it was kind of a f*** situation.”

Instead of relishing the moment, Kelce found himself preoccupied with simply getting through the lines. “I was just focused on ‘don’t f***ing skip this line,’” he joked, highlighting the pressure he felt during the rehearsals.

“I’m more of an audio guy,” he added with a chuckle. “The table read was the hardest f***ing part.”

During his SNL debut, Kelce participated in various sketches, including “Garrett from Hinge” and “American Girl Cafe.” Reflecting on the whirlwind experience, he described it as a “crazy ride.”

“It was just a fun roller-coaster,” he shared with hosts Will Compton and Taylor Lewan. “You’re there all week, up to 2 and 3 in the morning just trying to knock stuff out, do some of the prerecorded stuff. That was insane. That was a crazy ride. That was fun.”

As the NFL season approaches, Kelce is set to make a guest appearance in Netflix’s upcoming film Happy Gilmore 2. While fans speculate about his potential acting career, the Super Bowl champion clarified his preference for smaller roles.

“That’s where I see myself kind of, those fun cameos where I get a role that’s not necessarily my name in a movie or something like that,” he explained. “In Happy Gilmore, I’m a waiter. That’s a fun-ass f***ing role in a movie with guys like Adam Sandler, who I’ve loved my entire life. I’d kill to do movies like that for the rest of my life.”

When asked about committing to a major TV show, Kelce expressed hesitance due to the demanding nature of such projects. “It’s a career field I haven’t gotten comfortable with yet,” he noted. “The silly stuff, the funny stuff, I just feel so much more comfortable.”
