Trump Establishes Task Force for 2028 Los Angeles Olympics

Aug 05 2025

On Tuesday, President Trump will officially sign an executive order to form a task force dedicated to the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, as confirmed by the White House on Monday.

According to initial reports, the task force will focus on critical areas such as security, transportation, and visa processing for the event. Notably, California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, who have had a complicated relationship with Trump, have yet to comment on this development.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that Trump played a crucial role in securing the bid for the Olympics, emphasizing that he views overseeing this global event as a significant honor during his second term.

Casey Wasserman, chair and president of LA28, expressed gratitude towards Trump and his administration for their support. "On behalf of LA28, I want to express our deep appreciation to President Trump and his Administration for their leadership and unwavering support as we prepare to deliver the largest and most ambitious Olympic and Paralympic Games ever hosted in the United States," he remarked.

Wasserman further noted that since Los Angeles won the bid, Trump has consistently acknowledged the importance of the city's role in welcoming the world. He welcomed the establishment of the task force as a positive step forward.

In February, Trump signed another executive order aimed at reviewing policies regarding transgender athletes, directing both the Secretary of State and the Homeland Security Secretary to issue guidance intended to limit their participation in U.S. events. This order also urged the International Olympic Committee to reconsider allowing transgender athletes in women's competitions.

Additionally, Trump is leading a federal task force preparing for the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act, supported by Trump, allocates $1 billion in federal funding specifically for Olympic security and planning, along with an additional $625 million designated for World Cup security measures.
