Twins Reinstate Simeon Woods Richardson Amid Pitching Injuries
The Minnesota Twins have reinstated right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson, who is set to take the mound for the first game of a three-game series against Texas. This decision comes on the heels of injuries that have significantly impacted the team's starting rotation.
Woods Richardson, who started the season with the Twins, recorded a 2-2 record alongside a 5.02 ERA and 35 strikeouts across 37 2/3 innings in eight appearances, including seven starts. He was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul on May 15 after his initial stint and has since made three starts for the Saints.
In a concerning turn for the Twins, they recently lost key starters Pablo López and Zebby Matthews due to shoulder injuries. López, the team's ace, is sidelined for two to three months due to a Grade 2 strain of the teres major muscle in his shoulder. Meanwhile, Matthews is dealing with a moderate strain of the subscapularis muscle and is expected to return sooner than López.
To accommodate Woods Richardson's return, right-hander Travis Adams was sent back to St. Paul after being recalled just last Friday without making an appearance. Last season, Woods Richardson had a solid rookie campaign, finishing with a 5-5 record and a 4.17 ERA over 28 starts for the Twins.
