Twins Triumph Over Tigers 6-3 in Detroit

Aug 06 2025

Luke Keaschall made a memorable mark in his major league debut, launching his first home run as the Minnesota Twins defeated the Detroit Tigers 6-3 on Tuesday night. Trevor Larnach also contributed significantly, hitting a home run against former teammate Chris Paddack, further solidifying the Twins' offensive performance.

The Tigers, who lead the AL Central, faced only their third loss in nine games, while the Twins, in a rebuilding phase, managed to break a streak of seven losses in their last nine outings.

Activated from the 60-day injured list earlier that day, Keaschall wasted no time making an impact. In just his eighth career game, he hit a two-run homer in the first inning, propelling Minnesota to an early 3-0 advantage. He later added an RBI single during a two-run fifth inning, extending the Twins' lead to 6-1.

Larnach's contribution was equally vital; his 15th home run of the season, a solo shot in the fourth inning, pushed Minnesota ahead 4-1. This marked his second home run in as many days.

On the mound, Zebby Matthews (3-3) delivered a solid performance, allowing just one run on five hits and a walk while striking out six over five innings. In contrast, Paddack (4-10) struggled, giving up four runs on six hits across four innings in his second start since being traded to Detroit from Minnesota for catcher Enrique Jimenez just before the trade deadline.

In a late-game effort, Jahmai Jones hit a two-out, two-run triple in the eighth inning, narrowing the gap for the Tigers to three runs. However, it wasn't enough to change the outcome.

Detroit opted to rest All-Star outfielder Riley Greene for the night, and All-Star second baseman Gleyber Torres was scratched shortly before the game due to tightness in his right forearm.

A misjudgment by Matt Vierling on a fly ball off Ryan Jeffers' bat in the first inning turned what could have been an inning-ending catch into a double, allowing the Twins to capitalize and score three runs.

Paddack's struggles against Minnesota continued; he is now 0-3 in three matchups this season against the Twins, having previously lost to them on April 12 and June 29.

Looking ahead, Detroit's right-handed pitcher Jack Flaherty (6-10, 4.36 ERA) is set to start the series finale on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Minnesota plans to utilize its bullpen to navigate through the game.
