Aaron Rodgers Faces Early Challenge at Steelers Training Camp
Aaron Rodgers' debut at Pittsburgh Steelers training camp took an unexpected turn when his first pass was intercepted by linebacker Patrick Queen. The incident occurred on July 24 at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
“It’s good to get that out the way,” Rodgers remarked to reporters following the play. He emphasized his history of making bold throws during practice, stating, “Anyone who’s watched me in games knows I’ve been pretty stellar taking care of the football over the years.”
Rodgers, now 41, acknowledged the challenges of practicing in the summer heat, expressing enthusiasm for the upcoming days. “I’m going to throw some picks, but I’m going to throw some touchdowns, too,” he added, hinting at the competitive spirit he brings to the field.
In June, Rodgers signed a one-year contract worth $13.6 million with the Steelers. This move follows a busy offseason that included his marriage to Brittani, which he disclosed during minicamp on June 10, noting that the wedding took place “a couple months ago.”
While he has kept details about his wife private, he shared with ESPN’s Pat McAfee that she values her privacy. For now, Rodgers is sharing a dorm room with Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf during training camp.
“I was secretly hoping it wasn’t a big lineman or something,” Rodgers joked about his roommate situation. Upon entering the room and spotting a standard suitcase, he felt relieved, thinking, “Oh, I think it’s going to be good. This is probably DK.”

Metcalf, who joined the Steelers in March, recounted their amusing first encounter as roommates. “He knocked on my door, and I thought it was the front door, and it was actually my bathroom door,” Metcalf explained. “He was like, ‘Oh man, I was hoping it was you.’”
Reflecting on their new living arrangement, Metcalf expressed satisfaction with having Rodgers as a roommate. “It was a good experience just to see his face and knowing that we could continue conversations outside the meeting room,” he said.
The Steelers training camp is set to continue until August 12, leading up to their season opener against the New York Jets—Rodgers’ former team—on September 7.
