Bears Rookies Colston Loveland and Luther Burden Shine at Training Camp

Jul 29 2025

On Tuesday, Colston Loveland and Luther Burden took to the practice field at Halas Hall, marking a significant moment in their rookie seasons with the Chicago Bears.

Loveland, who underwent shoulder surgery in January, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to practice with his teammates after missing the entire offseason program. "The shoulder feels great," he stated, emphasizing his readiness for blocking duties.

Head coach Ben Johnson praised Loveland's performance, noting his impressive blocking skills and "football instincts." Johnson remarked that the initial impressions of Loveland are "really encouraging."

Meanwhile, Burden participated in team drills for the first time, showcasing his progress on the second day of practice. Johnson indicated that Burden is gradually increasing his participation and will receive more snaps as training camp progresses.

Despite not recording any catches, Burden faced challenges, including a moment where he was removed from practice for misaligning. Johnson acknowledged that Burden had alignment issues during Monday's walkthrough, stating, "he's a little bit behind right now."

In addition to the rookies' performances, Johnson noted that Dennis Allen has been consistently impressive in practice. The defense dominated much of the session, particularly excelling in a two-minute drill that concluded practice with a strong showing against the offense.

Johnson candidly admitted that his offense is "having a difficult time in protection right now," highlighting areas for improvement as the team moves forward in training camp.

As the Bears continue their preparations for the upcoming season, Loveland and Burden's development will be closely monitored by fans and coaches alike.
