Cabrera Dominates as Marlins Defeat Braves 5-1
Edward Cabrera delivered a masterclass on the mound Friday night, striking out 11 batters and allowing just two hits over eight innings, propelling the Miami Marlins to a 5-1 victory against the Atlanta Braves.
In his 20th start of the season, Cabrera (6-5) maintained a shutout until Jurickson Profar connected for a home run in the sixth inning. Notably, Cabrera struck out the side in the eighth, showcasing his dominance.
Xavier Edwards contributed significantly, going 3 for 5 with an RBI. He opened the scoring in the third inning with a single that brought Dane Myers home, marking his 34th multi-hit game of the season.
Rookies Jakob Marsee and Troy Johnston extended the lead in the fourth inning with key RBI hits. Marsee doubled down the left field line, while Johnston added a single up the middle, pushing the score to 3-0.
Heriberto Hernandez, another rookie sensation, launched a two-run homer to left field in the fifth inning, marking his seventh home run of the season.
On the other side, Braves pitcher Bryce Elder (4-9) struggled, giving up five earned runs and seven hits across six innings. Dylan Dodd managed to strike out four batters in three innings of relief.

Marcell Ozuna, who had been pivotal with a go-ahead RBI in Thursday's game, went hitless, finishing 0 for 4.
Both of Miami's walks—Myers in the third and Kyle Stowers in the fifth—resulted in runs, highlighting their efficiency on the bases.
Prior to this game, Miami had faced challenges at Truist Park, losing 17 of their last 21 matchups there. The Braves entered with a strong record of 112-62 (.644) against the Marlins, including an 8-6 win in Thursday's series opener.
The series continues with a day-night split doubleheader on Saturday, a makeup for an earlier rainout. Atlanta's RHP Hurston Waldrep (1-0, 1.59) is set to pitch Game 1, while Miami has yet to announce their starter. In Game 2, Miami's RHP Sandy Alcantara (6-10, 6.44) will face off against RHP Eric Fedde (3-12, 5.32) from Atlanta.
