Colorado Rapids and Santos Laguna Fans Unite for Leagues Cup Festivities

On Thursday, the Colorado Rapids kicked off their Leagues Cup journey, a competition uniting Major League Soccer and Liga MX. The pre-game festivities showcased a stark contrast between the two fan bases.

Rapids supporters savored burgers, hot dogs, and local craft beers, creating a lively tailgate scene.

"We as a group try to provide a fun atmosphere no matter what's going on on the field," shared Nina Rice, a board member of the Centennial 38 Rapids Fan Club.

Meanwhile, fans of Santos Laguna indulged in tacos, cumbias, and cervezas, bringing a taste of Mexico to the event.

"This is my blood and family thing. And like, you see all this right now, this crowd, they enjoy it, and it is a lot of people from every one of the United States," expressed Fernando Arriaga, a dedicated Santos Laguna supporter.

Supporters traveled from various locations across the U.S. and Mexico to rally behind their team and enjoy the festive atmosphere.

"We always got together. Have some good beers, good food and good music," noted Alfredo Tapia, a Santos Laguna fan from Lafayette.

Inside the stadium, however, the atmosphere transcended team loyalties. Fans mingled freely, united by their love for soccer.

"We kind of go by the motto, you know, enemies for 90 minutes, friends for life," Rice added. "It's just something you don't have to speak the same language to know how to do together. And so, to me, it just brings people together."

The Rapids are set for two more matches in this tournament: one on Sunday at Dick's Sporting Goods Park against Tijuana, followed by a trip to Los Angeles to face Cruz Azul.
