Dallas Wings Suffer Fourth Straight Loss to Los Angeles Sparks
On Friday night, the Dallas Wings faced off against the Los Angeles Sparks, both teams desperate to break their respective three-game losing streaks. The Sparks emerged victorious, defeating the Wings 93-79.
With this loss, the Wings' record now stands at 1-8 for the season. Azura Stevens of the Sparks shone brightly, setting a career high with five three-pointers, significantly contributing to her team's success.
Odyssey Sims, a former Wings player now with the Sparks, added 19 points and three three-pointers to her tally. This performance followed her impressive 32-point outing in a previous game against Phoenix.
At halftime, the Wings found themselves trailing by five points after Sims executed a three-point play just before the buzzer. The scoring at the half included nine points from Sims, 13 from Stevens, and 11 from Dearica Hamby.
The Sparks ignited the third quarter with a 6-0 run and continued their momentum into the fourth with a 9-0 run, pushing their lead to 76-55. The Wings struggled early in the final quarter, committing three turnovers and missing two shots within the first three minutes.
Stevens hit her fifth three-pointer with 4:45 remaining in the game, capitalizing on a well-executed drive and pass from Kelsey Plum.
For Dallas, DiJonai Carrington scored 16 points while JJ Quinerly achieved a career-high of 14 points. Luisa Geiselsoder recorded her first double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Kaila Charles contributed 10 points.
The Wings played without both of their point guards: rookie Paige Bueckers missed her third consecutive game due to a concussion, and Ty Harris was also unavailable.
During this four-game losing streak, Dallas has allowed opponents to score over 90 points in three of those contests.
Looking ahead, the Wings aim to end their four-game home skid against Minnesota on Sunday, June 8. This matchup will mark the third meeting of the season between these two teams. Dallas has yet to secure a win at home, while Minnesota boasts a perfect record on the road.
Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. CT.
