Davion Mitchell Re-Signs with Miami Heat for $24 Million

Jun 29 2025

Davion Mitchell is set to return to the Miami Heat, having agreed to a two-year contract valued at $24 million, according to a source familiar with the negotiations.

The source, who requested anonymity due to the pending nature of the deal, confirmed the agreement on Saturday. The official announcement is expected soon.

Mitchell, recognized by the Heat as one of the premier on-ball defenders in the NBA, joined the team in February as part of a trade that sent Jimmy Butler to Golden State. During his time with Miami, he participated in 30 regular-season games, starting 15 and averaging 10.7 points per game.

In the playoffs, he elevated his performance, averaging 15 points across four games. His willingness to return to Miami was evident, especially considering he could have entered restricted free agency this summer.

"Being here, I kind of just fit right in," Mitchell remarked at the conclusion of the Heat's season. "They needed someone who can be a defensive presence, who can get their teammates open, make my teammates' lives a lot easier, and I think that's what I did."

This marks Mitchell's third team in his career, following previous stints with Sacramento and Toronto. Drafted ninth overall by the Kings in 2021, he has accumulated averages of 7.6 points and 3.3 assists over 301 regular-season games spanning four seasons.
