Jul 01 2025

The Detroit Red Wings confirmed Monday that forward Patrick Kane will remain with the team for another season, signing a one-year extension worth $3 million.

Kane, who joined the Red Wings in 2023, showcased his skills during the 2024-2025 season, participating in 72 games and finishing among the team's top performers with 21 goals, 38 assists, and a total of 59 points. His contributions included 12 power play goals and 29 points on the power play.

In a social media announcement, the Red Wings playfully stated, "You know what time it is," signaling their excitement about Kane's continued presence.

At 36 years old, Kane hails from Buffalo, New York, and was originally drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in 2007. His career highlights include playing a pivotal role in the Blackhawks' 2010 Stanley Cup victory. Over his career, he has been selected to nine NHL All-Star games, notably six consecutive from 2015 to 2020. Additionally, he has earned three selections to the NHL First All-Star Team and has been named to the Second All-Star Team.

Before his time in Detroit, Kane spent one season with the New York Rangers, where he netted 20 goals along with 27 assists for a total of 47 points in his inaugural season with the Red Wings.

This contract extension follows closely on the heels of the Red Wings' first-round selection of left wing Carter Bear in the 2025 NHL draft. Bear, who played three seasons with the Everett Silvertips in the Western Hockey League, was picked 13th overall. The Red Wings also added right wing Eddie Genborg, goaltender Michael Pradel, right wing Brent Solomon, left wing Michal Svreck, defenseman Nikita Tyurin, defenseman Will Murphy, and center Grayden Robertson-Palmer to their roster.

Additionally, the Red Wings have released their preseason schedule for 2025-2026, with their first matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks set for September 23 at Little Caesars Arena. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., with ticket sales details forthcoming.
