Minnesota Frost Faces Player Losses in PWHL Expansion Draft

Jun 10 2025

In a significant roster shakeup, the Minnesota Frost, reigning champions of the PWHL, saw two of their forwards depart during the recent expansion draft. The event unfolded as the league welcomed its newest teams, Seattle and Vancouver, into the fold.

Brooke McQuigge and Denisa Krizova are now part of the Vancouver roster, marking a notable shift for the Frost. Additionally, Vancouver capitalized on the exclusive signing window to acquire former Frost defenders Sophie Jaques and Claire Thompson, further deepening their roster.

Prior to the draft, the Frost had the opportunity to protect four players. They opted to safeguard forwards Kendall Coyne Schofield, Taylor Heise, Britta Curl-Salemme, and defender Lee Stecklein from being selected by the expansion teams.

The loss of Jaques and Thompson is particularly impactful; they ranked second and fourth in points for the Frost last season. McQuigge and Krizova also contributed significantly, with McQuigge tied for fifth in points alongside Curl-Salemme, while Krizova held the eighth position.

Coyne Schofield led the team in scoring, with Heise sharing a tie with Jaques for second place. The Frost's dominance in the league is underscored by their status as the only champions in PWHL history, having secured the Walter Cup in both of the league's inaugural seasons.

With the addition of Seattle and Vancouver, the PWHL now boasts a total of eight teams, setting the stage for an exciting future in women's hockey.
