Jackson Jobe to Undergo Season-Ending Tommy John Surgery

Jun 12 2025

Detroit Tigers pitcher Jackson Jobe is set to undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, a decision confirmed by the team on Wednesday.

The procedure will be performed by Dr. Keith Meister, who serves as the team physician and is also an orthopedic consultant for the Texas Rangers. The timing of the surgery had not been previously established.

"It's obviously really disappointing news," said Tigers general manager Jeff Greenberg. "I really feel for Jackson. Everybody sees the talent, and he made a really positive impression on this team in his short time here. He's going to work through this. He's a very determined individual."

In his debut season, Jobe recorded a 4-1 record with a 4.22 ERA across 10 starts after making the opening-day roster. The 22-year-old was placed on the 15-day injured list due to a Grade 1 right flexor strain following his outing on May 28.

"As is standard in our medical evaluation process, we sought additional evaluations," Greenberg explained. "Through that evaluation process, a UCL injury was also discovered. From there, there were a series of conversations between Jackson, the doctors, and the medical staff, and ultimately, surgery was determined as the path."

Selected third overall in the 2021 amateur draft, Jobe was ranked as the Tigers' third-best prospect for 2024 by MLB.com.

Before this season, he made two relief appearances for Detroit late last year and participated in two games during the American League playoffs.

Despite Jobe's setback, Detroit currently boasts the best record in the American League at 44-25, even after suffering a 10-1 defeat against Baltimore on Wednesday night.
