Lynx Maintain Undefeated Streak with 86-75 Victory Over Valkyries
Napheesa Collier dominated the court with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Courtney Williams contributed significantly with 20 points, five rebounds, and five assists, leading the Minnesota Lynx to an 86-75 victory over the Golden State Valkyries on Sunday night.
With this win, Minnesota improved to 7-0, tying with New York at the top of the WNBA standings. This comes after their previous season ended in a championship series loss to the Liberty.
The Valkyries, despite the loss, made headlines by achieving three consecutive sellout crowds in their inaugural home games at the Chase Center, which boasts a capacity of 18,064 and serves as the home arena for the NBA's Golden State Warriors.
A pivotal moment occurred when Williams sank a 3-pointer just over three minutes into the third quarter, propelling the Lynx into a commanding lead. This shot ignited a remarkable 27-5 run, culminating in back-to-back 3-pointers from Collier and Williams that extended the lead to 83-61 with 5:43 remaining.
Kayla McBride added to the Lynx's offensive efforts with 16 points on an efficient 6-of-10 shooting, while Bridget Carleton chipped in with 12 points.
For Golden State, Veronica Burton shone brightly, hitting three 3-pointers and finishing with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Kate Martin and Kayla Thornton also made notable contributions, scoring 14 and 11 points respectively.
