Mariners Dominate Twins 11-2, Extend Minnesota's Losing Streak
Cal Raleigh launched his 32nd home run of the season on Monday, leading the Seattle Mariners to an emphatic 11-2 win over the Minnesota Twins. This home run, a two-run blast in the ninth inning off reliever Joey Wentz, capped off a night of offensive fireworks for Seattle.
In a pivotal third inning, Julio Rodríguez and Luke Raley contributed to a six-run surge, with Raley's three-run homer being a standout moment. Dominic Canzone, who had already homered twice the previous day, added another long ball to the Mariners' tally. Bryan Woo (7-4) was effective on the mound, allowing just two runs while striking out nine batters, securing his second consecutive victory.
For Minnesota, Brooks Lee, Trevor Larnach, and Carlos Correa each recorded two hits. Larnach and Correa provided a glimmer of hope with back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning, but it was not enough to change the course of the game. The Twins have now lost 14 of their last 17 games.
Twins starter Bailey Ober (4-5) struggled during a critical third inning, surrendering six runs. Despite only allowing two other baserunners and striking out seven over seven innings, Ober's inability to contain the Mariners during that frame proved costly. He was one out away from escaping with minimal damage when he left a fastball over the plate for Raley, who sent it an estimated 436 feet into right-center field.
Rodríguez further padded Seattle's lead with a two-run double in the ninth before Raleigh's final home run of the night. The Twins have faced significant challenges since losing starters Pablo López and Zebby Matthews to shoulder injuries in early June, allowing an alarming 133 runs over their last 17 games—averaging 7.8 runs per game.
The series continues with a matchup of veteran right-handers as Seattle's Luis Castillo (4-5, 3.38) is set to face Chris Paddack (3-6, 4.48) for Minnesota in the next game.
